We think of it this way - microdermabrasion is a traditional horizontal exfoliation, while microneedling is a new type of vertical exfoliation. Microdermabrasion horizontally removes the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells. Microneedling creates vertical micro-channels in the skin.
